Memory Foam Wedge Pillow

Memory foam is denser foam than normal, made up of polyurethane and other chemicals, which increases the viscosity of the foam. It was developed in 1966 by NASA’s research center, aiming to develop and improve the safety of cushions onboard aircrafts. Dynamic Systems Inc. was then formed by one of the major contributors of the development of the memory foam, and they collaborated with NASA to be able to make the foam commercially. The products that were first using memory foam were x-ray tables and as lining for football helmets, but this was later on also expanded.

It was made public in the 1980s; and today, it is most commonly used as mattress toppers, the memory foam pillow and the memory foam neck pillow. What has only been introduced recently and is quickly gaining popularity is the memory foam wedge pillow. This is a pillow that is made of memory foam, but takes on the shape of a wedge – imagine the shape of wedge door stoppers, except bigger.

Memory Foam Wedge Pillow

The memory foam wedge pillow was created to help those suffering from acid reflux or GERD, also called gastro-esophageal reflux disease. The reason it helps them is because of the shape of the pillow, the entire torso of the person sleeping on it is elevated to a 45 degree angle; therefore, the acid is not able to go back up the esophagus. But this pillow is not just for people with GERD because there are numerous benefits to using one.

Sleeping at an angle like this will lead to better breathing and digestion, perfect for those who want to improve their metabolism. It also decreases the chance of getting a sinus infection while asleep, and this also reduces snoring and symptoms of sleep apnea.

The memory foam wedge pillow can also be used while awake. It is a great reading pillow, offering you comfortable reading for hours, without getting that annoying crick in your neck. It is also best used for watching TV; this is especially good for those TVs that are on the same level of the bed, as opposed to those that are hung up on the wall near the ceiling. Even kids can make use of this unique memory foam pillow, as they can use this for making homework or just for added comfort. Even those kids who are finicky sleepers will sleep more soundly when using this.

The memory foam wedge pillow is fully hypoallergenic and will be perfect for those with especially sensitive sinuses. Do you find yourself waking up to “morning allergies” and sneezing being a part of your daily routine? Say goodbye to those annoying morning sniffles, because these pillows will fight against the dust particles that irritate the sinuses and inflame the throat. Are you currently recovering from surgery? Then these pillows are also perfect for you. The special angling of the pillow will help you sleep comfortably, even if you’re not allowed to lie down fully on your back.
